Master of physiotherapy (MPT)
The Master of Physiotherapy program at Kathmandu University School of Medical Sciences (KUSMS) is a two-year, post graduate-level degree. This program is designed with an innovative, practice-oriented approach, focusing on the core areas of clinical research and areas of Physiotherapy.
Students are taught the principles of evidence-based practice, professional ethics, and interprofessional collaboration. Leadership skills and research methodologies are integral parts of the curriculum, with students undertaking a research project as part of their academic journey. Advanced topics cover the management of complex patients, health promotion, and community rehabilitation, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of both clinical and community-based healthcare delivery.
Students are encouraged to develop a professional portfolio throughout the course, demonstrating their competencies and readiness for clinical practice. The program’s curriculum has been carefully crafted by experienced physiotherapy national and international educators and clinicians to ensure it meets the current and future needs of the profession.

Clinical placements are a significant component of the program, with students completing significant hours of hands-on experience. These placements are arranged to match classroom learning and cover a broad range of client groups across various healthcare settings, including hospitals, private clinics, and community centers. Students are provided opportunities to work under the supervision of experienced physiotherapists, gaining exposure to real-world practice in cities and potentially in rural and regional areas as well. This blend of academic and practical training ensures graduates are well-prepared for the challenges of physiotherapy practice in Nepal and beyond.
- Master of Physiotherapy in Musculoskeletal & Sports
MPT is two year full time program divided in four semesters
• Semester 1, Year 1: Research methodology, Applied biostatistics in physiotherapy, Movement science, motor control and learning, Pain and its management, Diagnostic physiotherapy and treatment planning, Clinical education (General), Thesis Part I (topic selection, literature review, protocol presentation and proposal preparation)
• Semester 2, Year 1: Musculoskeletal physiotherapy I, Clinical education I (Musculoskeletal physiotherapy), Clinical decision making, Leadership, management and professional practice, Thesis Part II (data collection)
• Semester 1, Year 2: Musculoskeletal physiotherapy II, Clinical education II (Musculoskeletal physiotherapy), Thesis Part III (data collection and analysis)
• Semester 2, Year 2: Musculoskeletal physiotherapy III, Clinical education III (Musculoskeletal physiotherapy), Thesis Part IV (thesis and its defense)
- BPT graduate from an institution recognized by Kathmandu University and Medical education commission with minimum of 50% score.
- Registration with Nepal Health Research Council.
- Entrance Test for MPT will be conducted by the Medical Education Commission (MEC), Government of Nepal and selection will be done as per MEC guidelines by MEC.
- Total Fee : NRs. 9,20,230/-
- Tuition fee for foreign nationality will be 1.6 times of Nepalese nationality.
